In German, the term “Untiefe” has two opposite meanings: It refers to shallow areas in the water that pose a hazard to navigation, as well as to chasms and abysmal depths.

The exhibition Untiefen, which features around 30 works by 19 artists from the Schaufler Collection, takes up this exciting polarity. Here, works are juxtaposed that – at first glance – only entice through the appeal of their beautiful surface and those that include critical content and current issues.

Artists in the exhibition: Nobuyoshi Araki, John M Armleder, Ross Bleckner, Herbert Brandl, Marc Brandenburg, Sylvie Fleury, Katharina Grosse, Subodh Gupta, Olav Christopher Jenssen, Anselm Kiefer, Joseph Kosuth, Brigitte Kowanz, Robert Longo, Marc Quinn, Ugo Rondinone, Adrian Schiess, Not Vital, Franz West, Erwin Wurm.
