Neuer Kunstverein Wien is showing the sculptural installation 'Eroberung des Nutzlosen' by Sonia Leimer. The exploration of spaces and materials that are culturally, socially, historically or personally significant forms the starting point of Sonia Leimer's artistic work. The thematic complexes of architecture, work and globalisation are at the centre of her interest. Sonia Leimer creates sculptures, videos and installations that move between real places and imaginary contexts. Sonia Leimer's works can also be seen in the sculpture show 'Here and Now', which opens at the same time. The performance 'Eroberung des Nutzlosen' takes place on the day of the opening of the two opening of the two projects.
 
Sonia Leimer lives and works in Vienna. She studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was a founding member of the architecture firm and gallery Nullmaschine (2001-02). Her work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Zurich, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Vienna, Aachen, Los Angeles, Salzburg, Bolzano and at the 14th Triennale for Small Sculpture, Fellbach Manifesta 7, Rovereto and the 5th and 6th Moscow Biennale. Sonia Leimer has won numerous grants and prizes, including the Italian Art Council Award, MAK Schindler Stipend, the Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky Prize and the Audi Award.
